Are you passionate about encouraging consumers to Buy Local? Do you have experience leading organizations or projects? Can you commit 6-8 hours a month to collaborations that help independent, locally owned businesses?
If you answered yes to all three questions, Local First Lexington would love for you to consider joining our Board of Directors!
At our reception on Wednesday, March 13, you can chat with current LFL board members and other potential new board members. We would love to talk with you about why local nonprofits and businesses are so vital to us, and how we work together to help our community.

Those members elected to the board will have opportunities to become intimately involved in the decisions that shape the direction of LFL. Board duties include:
Board duties include:
–Focusing on policies that will guide Local First Lexington’s operational decisions, membership growth, planning, budgeting, and strategic direction.
–Ownership and responsibility for ensuring specific goals agreed on at the annual board retreat are accomplished.
–Setting an individual fundraising goal to meet each year. The board member’s goal amount is set by each individual, and can be accomplished in a variety of ways: recruiting new members, recruiting sponsors, personal donations, etc.

We highly prefer applicants to be members of LFL for at least one year and have demonstrated involvement in the organization. If an applicant’s business or nonprofit organization is eligible for membership in LFL, we expect LFL membership at the time of our election. The time commitment for board members includes 90 minute in-person meetings every quarter, a 6-hour strategic planning session (in April), meeting preparation, and active leadership/responsibility for at least one committee/goal. Overall monthly time commitment to LFL is estimated to be about 6-8 hours a month for board work and meetings (does not include your involvement with the organization as an individual member). Meeting times and days may vary, but they are announced well in advance. Board terms are for 2 years.
A slate of candidates will be prepared by the nominating committee based on applicants’ responses and diverse representation on the board of skills, business type, size and location to ensure that all LFL members are represented. Important dates to remember in the board application process:
